Our Purpose

Our mission is to end poverty and stop ocean plastic.

We work in developing countries where the ocean plastic crisis is the worst, unemployment is high, and wages are low. This gives us an excellent opportunity to have an impact economically and environmentally.

Using a crowd-sourced collection model for plastic increases efficiency and gives anybody that wants an opportunity to make money. This is an empowering system for those living in poverty because there are no limits to how much money they can make.

We make trash too valuable to be thrown away. We do this by selling plastic offset credits to businesses and individuals to offset plastic waste generated:

  • Businesses can get plastic-neutral certifications for either their whole business or individual products.

  • Individuals can purchase products or offset their plastic waste.

How it works

Ocean plastic on beach

1. Individuals and businesses offset their plastic use by purchasing offset credits from Tidey. This can be by purchasing a product or certifying their products as plastic neutral.

2. Workers collect plastic waste from neighborhoods, rivers, and streams.

Weighing and recording ocean-bound plastic

3. Plastic is weighed and recorded.

4. Plastic is transported to our processing facility to prepare it for recycling.

Plastic is compressed into bales for transportation

5. The collected plastic is compressed into bales for transportation to a manufacturer to be made into new products.

Individuals: How can you help?

Check out our shop and make a purchase. By purchasing one of our products, you are stopping 10 pounds of ocean-bound plastic from entering the ocean. You also provide a fair working wage for those collecting the plastic.

Our Guatemala bracelets are made by local artisans. The proceeds of bracelet sales go to funding our collection of ocean-bound plastic in Guatemala.

Businesses: Go Plastic Neutral

We are helping businesses and individuals go plastic neutral or plastic negative by selling plastic offset credits.
